Publishing News

'Hunter', by Campbell Jefferys, has won the general fiction category of the 2009 Next Generation Indie Book Awards and finished runner-up in the overall fiction category. The full list of winners is available on the Indie Book Awards website (www.indiebookawards.com).

Worldwide sales of Fish Sunday Thinking have now passed $120,000 which is a fantastic achievement for Alex Gilmore with his debut novel. Alex has just completed his second novel which is being considered by a number of major publishers.

'Both Sides of the Fence', Frank Cullum's poacher-turned-gamekeeper memoir has been reviewed in Shooting Times as has Ken Rutterford's highly acclaimed 'Cartridges of the British Isles'.

Frank Downwood's quirky science fantasy 'A Scratch in the World' received a good review in Ottakars national Outland magazine where he was in the company of such esteemed authors as Stephen King.

Janet Davies had her book featured in an article in The Sunday Times and has had a number of media engagements to promote her book 'Rebuilding your life after redundancy'.

'Getting There' author, TV Smith was interviewed by Tom Robinson on his BBC 6 Music show and also featured on Henry Rollins high profile Los Angeles radio show in the US. His book will also be reviewed next month in the UK's Record Collector magazine.

Sir Donald was born in Belfast in 1926. This memoir charts his early life, moving through his career posts in the UK and US, medical research at Oxford and his appointment as Chief Medical Officer of England.

The Book covers his experiences in Whitehall advising Government on many important issues including those he termed 'The seven Plagues of Egypt:' HIV/AIDS, Salmonella, Legionellosis, Listeriosis, Botulism, Small Pox and BSE. It also describes the author's World Health Organisation work in Bosnia during the Humanitarian Crisis in the former Yugoslavia and his later work in Chechnya.

Steven Berkoff was asked to direct Shakespeare's Richard II in New York early 1994. It was a project he found fascinating: performing an Elizabethan play within the scrapers of Manhattan and the still rotting slums of the Lower East Side, between the steaming breath oozing out from the cracked pipes and the brutality of modern New York speak. New York became the backdrop and the energy centre which charged him each day and fed his inspiration.

This book offers a wonderful insight into the many characters, challenges and places that were integral to the project and details how gradually the production took form.
