Two Columns of Pennies
It is becoming a fact of life that all the complicated issues in the world, ranging from the needs of the very poor to the desires of the very rich, are being reduced to simple financial solutions. The most important issue in the UK at the moment is ‘The Budget’ and how great sums of money are collected and redistributed to solve the UK problems. We seem only to be throwing money at problems, and we are becoming blind to the alternative ways of dealing with these; we cannot see beyond these two columns of pennies.
In this fictitious novel, in an effort to give the people what they want, the government has set up a small advisory committee of four young adults. They will be given specific topics to review from time to time and they will be encouraged to criticise government actions and offer their own individual views. Their comments will be considered by a few chosen senior politicians, and where appropriate will be used to identify the root causes of problems and perhaps prescribe procedures to solve them.
The views of the younger generation however, presented the government with more information and insight than they had ever imagined, and they had to consider introducing far reaching legislation to deal with national disasters.
