This book examines the psychosocial and psychological effects of diabetes on a patient's life. Many NHS Trusts do not routinely offer psychological assessments and referral to psychologists or counselling services to enable patients to deal with the expected stress and common depression experienced by diabetics brought on by their conditions. Without support, depression can go on to affect the patients' glycaemic control and possible onset of diabetes-related complications such as diabetic retinopathy, peripheral neuropathy and nephropathy.
